NHS 111 Out of Hours - new number
NHS 111 is a new service that has been introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services. You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency. NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right help, whatever the time.
The service is free from both mobiles and landlines and is available 24 hours 365 days a year. When telephoning 111, a call handler will take the call and ask the patient a series of questions about their symptoms. At the end of the call they will be advised which service would be best placed to help with their concern or advised to self-treat at home if appropriate.
If you have a life threatening medical emergency please dial 999
For minor illnesses, minor injuries, cuts and suspected fractures you can attend the ITC Centre at St Mary’s Hospital rather than A & E.
A & E attendances should be for injuries, serious illnesses and medical emergencies. You may have to wait 4 hours if your case is not urgent.
999calls are for serious illnesses or injuries only where the patient is too ill to travel by car.
